Bathed in gentle late-afternoon sunshine, she poured sweet-smelling tea into her favorite cup. Alaya loved those small garden parties with her brother Oberon and Rivelka. As she listened to Oberon talk, she would cast a glittering eye over the colorful array of sweets. Oberon sometimes talked about the hardships of past times, but he also spoke of Jayden as a stalwart ally in the face of them. The Jayden of Oberon's memory lived vividly in Alaya's heart, too. Since then, however, much time has passed, and the turmoil of war gradually has clouded the bright memories. The demons of suspicion took hold of Oberon, blinding him to the truth, and Alaya, too, was driven once more into pointless battle. She still believes, however, that those happy, peaceful days will return.
