| The javelin was originally thrown high into the sky to attack foes from a great distance. As the bow and arrow developed over time, however, the use of the javelin as a long-distance weapon gradually diminished. Since it was meant to be disposable, it was produced in such large numbers that existing javelins are now used for lance training. |
